Subject: Rims & Brakes...too much info

Ok, here we go....

I made mention to the Technomagnesio rims and Brembo brakes that bolt on to
our beloved Gamma's and the response of "FAX IT TO ME" is a bit
overwhelming...plus my wife wonders what all these calls are about....So,
here's all the info on the Rims and Brakes, as I have it.

The brakes first (less to type right now)

Brembo also makes a very nice LITTLE two piston caliper for the rear brake.
I don't have the part number, but Jay will know what you want...tell him you
want the SMALL unit. I think it was about $175.00 or so (or was that
$75.00?...nah, sounds too inexpensive).

The downside of getting the brake kit was that it took about 45
days...something about orders going out near the end (?) of the month and I
managed to order right after they had sent out an order...bummer, huh?

Now for the Techno stuff....much longer, as I intend on basically trying to
get all that I was sent typed out for everyone.

TechnoMagnesio - Vortice style <--- What I'm running on my RG
3.5 x 17 Front - 7.1 lbs $590.00
5.5 x 17 Rear - 10.5 lbs $675.00

Cover letter as I recieved it except for stuff inside ( )

Thank you for your call in reference to TecnoMagnesio (What do you know, I've
been spelling it wrong for the past 10 months!) wheels for you RG-500
motorcylce. We greatly appreciate you interest in our wheels and want to
assure you that they represent the highest technology in magnesium wheel
technology.

As we duscussed I will extend to you the Special Racers pricing for this
order. A copy is attached (see the next section of this letter).

The wheels are complete with bearings, spacers, cush drive (6 hole pattern,
not 4), and are ready to bolt on to your bike. Prices ar FOB Lakewood, CO
and normal delivery is 30-45 days (yea, right...I ordered in October and got
them in January...fortunately there's not much riding in Ohio during these
months) from reciept of order and 25% deposit. For your convenience the
deposit can be made by using Visa or Mastercard.

We can supply the wheels in white, gold, silver, dark gray and black. The
wheels are designed for use on the track or street. Magnesium is very
strong, 37% lighter than aluminum and with our 5 spoke design offers less
deflection for a better handling bike. With the new Dow 17 anodizing
treatment magnesium resists corrosion and will hold up in street
applications.

TecnoMagnesio is the oldest maker of magnesium wheels beginning in 1961
making racing wheels for Ferrari. They have very extensive in house
destruction testing facilities and every wheel is X-rayed and liquid dye
penetrant tested. you will be pleased with the precision, light weight and
overall quality. (Yes, I'm VERY happy with them).

Also enclosed is a couple of articles and a brochure that you will find of
interest. (If you want that stuff, get in touch with T.A.W....I'm NOT typing
that much!)

Please let us know how we can be of service to you with Tecnomagnesio wheels.
I am looking forward to talking to you again soon.

Sincerely,
Ted Waibel

A quick note on weight....in the Vortice rim style, a front 3.50 x 17 weighs
8lbs 2.5oz and a rear 6.00 x 17 weighs 13lbs 5oz while the Superlight rim
style, a front 3.50 x 17 weighs 6lbs 5oz and a rear 6.00 x 17 weighs 8lbs
14oz) Now, these weights are out of an article that was attached to my
package that Ted sent me. You will notice that I have a different weight for
the same front rim earlier in this posting...Ted gave me that weight...go
figure. All I know is the things are a hell of a lot lighter than those damn
stockers and look killer! (Is this where I mention the "dogs bullocks" -
what ever that means?)

Hey, what do you know...I just found this info tucked away in one of the
articles that Ted sent me for you guys in Europe!
TecnoMagnesio supplier in England (?): Autotorano Ltd (01722 410203)

Ok, my fingers are tired and I'm buggy from reading and typing at the same
time. You all now have the same info I've got... (:

Oh, one last side note....My first RG had Lockheed 4 piston calipers, Kossman
rotors and Marvics from an NSR on it (Kossman did all the mods and machining
to make it work). I've used the stock master cylinder on both setups and for
what it's worth, the brakes on my first RG had a better feel to them, but the
braking ability and strenght was the same as the Brembo setup. I'm looking
for a 5/8" GSXR master cylinder...been told it might get rid of the "mushy"
feeling I've got right now...sound familiar Randy?

Richard

no more typing Mommy, no more typing!
